One of my dreams as a child was to see snow.
I imagined holding it in my hands—making snowballs or building a snowman.

I think this fascination began with movies like Home Alone and other Christmas films that showed winter magic.
It seemed like a simple dream.
But growing up in a tropical country with only two seasons—sunny or rainy—meant I would need to travel far just to feel snow for real.

A Taste of Winter

One time, I visited a theme park in Manila with an attraction called “Ice Land.” It wasn’t real snow, but it came close.

Everyone had to wear thick jackets because of the freezing air inside.

There were ice sculptures—castles, dolphins, and even a huge slide made entirely of ice.
I crossed a slippery bridge and walked through rooms that looked like frozen kingdoms.

I was already a teenager, but I stared in wonder like a child.
Even as I shivered, I didn’t want to rush.
I wanted to enjoy the view.

When “Freeze” Isn’t Beautiful

I love winter. I love snow.
But I don’t like the word “freeze.”

To be frozen, stuck, unmoving—it’s a feeling I don’t enjoy.

You can imagine me as water:
I like to flow, to move with life.
But when I’m frozen, I feel boxed in.
Trapped.
Impatient.

And yet, just like seasons in nature, we all go through cold seasons in the heart.
Times when things feel quiet, paused, or painfully still.

Waiting for the Sun

Last week, I heard something in church that warmed my spirit.

“The sun is always there.
Sometimes it’s just hidden at night.
And maybe, the sunlight is already shining—
but your curtains are stopping it from getting in.”

That line spoke to me.

Maybe this cold feeling won’t last.
Maybe the sun—my hope, joy, and clarity—is already rising.
I just need to open up again.

Melting the Heart

So I’ll wait.
Like I once waited in that Ice Land room, shivering but full of wonder.

I’ll stand still with my frozen parts exposed—
Not to stay cold, but to let the sunlight find me.
To let it melt what’s gone numb.
To let warmth in again.

Because even winter ends.

And the sun always returns.
